Cannabis & Coffee: Hitman Opens Smoke Spot in LA

Amsterdam-style coffee shop opens in LA.

Cannabis-friendly coffee shops have long been common in European culture, but Americans just haven’t caught on to enjoying their Mary Jane with a cup of Joe.

That hallowed Dutch institution has now made its way stateside thanks to the opening of the Hitman Coffee Shop in Los Angeles, California.

Tucked away in a bustling yet inviting location near the city’s Miracle Mile area, Doug Dracup, founder of high-end pipe producers Hitman Glass, has erected a coffee shop in his company’s namesake to provide legally abiding cannabis enthusiasts aged 21 and over with a serene space other than their own house to enjoy a beverage, get some work done, or simply kick back, dab and relax.

This isn’t your average Starbucks, however, as Hitman’s wide-open two-story space also features an eye-popping gallery featuring precious works of functional glass art. Within Hitman’s museum-like displays contain works blown by some of today’s most notable artists, including the intricate alien creations of Boston-based glass blower Chaka, and the impressive fruit-shaped pieces of Humboldt County’s Scott Rosinski. None of the gallery items are available for sale, however Dracup says several of the works can carry a price tag as high as six figures.

Although Hitman Coffee doesn’t provide any cannabis products on site, they encourage visitors to bring their own to enjoy alongside a refreshing house-brewed beverage of their choice. Several benches line the first floor, and are complemented by a second-floor lounge complete with comfy sofas and a flat-screen television. All areas feature Hitman’s very own glass rigs for visitors to vaporize concentrates and a separate outdoor lounge is available for those who prefer to smoke their flowers.

Hitman’s environs also serve as a perfect space for working professionals looking for a cannabis-friendly location to conduct business. The sprawling benches double as workstations suitable for laptops, while the area itself is perfect for networking and conferences. In fact, Hitman’s membership prices — ranging from about $400 monthly to $4,000 yearly — are comparable to rent prices for co-work spaces in the Los Angeles area.

If that weren’t enough, Dracup expects the location to hold major events to bring together Southern California’s cannabis community. Patrons should soon expect a calendar rife with events such as launch parties, tastings, industry meet and greets, educational seminars, intimate concerts and alternating art exhibits.

Even the beverages are as carefully crafted as Hitman’s own glass, as coffee has also been one of Dracup’s long-time obsessions. Offerings include their very own coffee grounds and varieties of tea, which can be enjoyed traditionally or iced, preferably for one of Southern California’s notoriously hot spring and summer days.

The Hitman brand’s ambitions don’t end there, as they also envision the fledgling enterprise to expand to other major cities with legal marijuana laws in place. Members of any location would be allowed access to all standing and future Hitman Coffee locations, making for a convenient networking hub geared towards traveling professionals working in cannabis industry, or those who simply prefer to be surrounded by a pot-friendly environment.

Hitman Coffee is located at 659 South La Brea Ave. in Los Angeles, California. Membership packages also include daily passes that start at $20. For more information, visit Hitman’s page on Eventbrite.com.

TELL US, would you pay a membership fee to be able to enter a private cannabis social smoke club? How much would you be willing to pay?
